After Stroke Recovery | Achilles Injury | Gut Biome
Health for Everyday Living
A small change to my diet
I added half an apple to my breakfast, some basalmic mixed into my cesar dressing at lunch, and a OUI Yogurt with lunch. Stomach doing well!
Weight loss is a goal for me specifically to help manage my health since I'm so sensitive to medications. Control of blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol through diet and exercise are my goals these days. At age 60, I'm aiming for 20-30 minutes of cardio daily.
Check out Yes2Next on YouTube for some great senior exercises that can be done standing or seated.
The Cortisol Reset, The Gut Biome Reset, and Achilles Tendinitis in everyday walkers - These are things I'm struggling with or working on right now. I found that walking outside on a hilly area causes problems with my Achilles and feet. I switched to elliptical and strength training. The Achilles takes a long (long) time to heal, I find myself having to be very patient with it and work through some of the pain. The book looks at injury versus walking and everyday use and is geared to self recovery for minor strain. Gentle stretching and resting of the foot to support healing.
The Gut Biome is another challenge. There are many benefits to having a healthy gut - not the least of which is the immune system. The biggest thoughtful idea is to feed the bacteria that keeps your gut working for you and not against you. When there's an imbalance, you don't feel good and unhealthy food cravings take over.
The Cortisol Reset Changing how I eat, exercise, and managing stress is another goal.

The Cortisol Reset
-
The Gut Biome Reset
-
Lighter Legs
Additional practical wellness guides may be added to the series.
Do I need to read the books in a particular order?
No. Each book stands alone and focuses on a different topic. You can begin with the guide that best matches your current concern.
Who are these books written for?
The books are written for adults who want straightforward health information without having to work through a medical textbook. They are especially useful for readers dealing with common, everyday concerns such as walking-related tendon pain, stress and weight changes, digestive discomfort, IBS symptoms, or swelling in the lower legs and feet.
Are these books medical treatment guides?
No. The books are intended for general educational and informational purposes. They do not replace medical advice, diagnosis, physical therapy, or treatment from a qualified healthcare professional.
Can the books help me diagnose myself?
No. The guides explain common symptoms, possible contributing factors, and warning signs, but they are not self-diagnosis manuals. Many symptoms can have more than one cause. Persistent, severe, unexplained, or rapidly worsening symptoms should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
What does “no-nonsense” mean in this series?
It means the books avoid miracle cures, fear-based claims, extreme diets, and one-size-fits-all promises. The goal is to explain health topics in plain language while separating reasonable, research-supported guidance from popular wellness hype.
Is the information evidence-based?
The books are developed using established medical and health information, relevant research, and reputable professional guidance. They also acknowledge when the evidence is limited, mixed, or still developing.
Do the books include practical steps?
Yes. Depending on the topic, a guide may include gentle exercises, food considerations, daily routines, symptom observations, questions to discuss with a doctor, and simple plans for putting the information into practice.
Are the exercises suitable for beginners?
The movements are designed for everyday adults rather than competitive athletes. However, readers should consider their individual health, mobility, balance, injuries, and medical conditions. Stop any exercise that causes significant pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, or worsening symptoms.
Do the books recommend supplements?
The series takes a cautious approach to supplements. When supplements are discussed, the books explain the limits of the evidence and the importance of factors such as dosage, product quality, medication interactions, and individual medical needs. Readers should consult a qualified healthcare professional before beginning a new supplement.
Will I need to follow a strict diet?
No. The guides emphasize realistic, sustainable choices rather than rigid meal plans or extreme restrictions. Dietary information is presented as general education and should be adjusted for allergies, medical conditions, prescribed diets, medications, and advice from a healthcare professional.
Are these books appropriate for people taking prescription medications?
They may be useful for general education, but readers should not stop, reduce, or change a prescribed medication based on information in a book. Some symptoms—including swelling, digestive changes, fatigue, or tendon problems—can be related to medications. Any concerns should be discussed with the prescribing clinician.
Do the books explain when to seek medical attention?
Yes. An important purpose of the series is helping readers recognize when a symptom may need professional evaluation. The books identify warning signs that should prompt a routine appointment, urgent medical attention, or emergency care.
Which book should I begin with?
Choose the guide that most closely matches your concern:
-
For heel or Achilles pain caused by ordinary walking, begin with Achilles Tendinitis in Everyday Walkers.
-
For questions about stress, cortisol, sleep, appetite, and sustainable weight management, begin with The Cortisol Reset.
-
For digestion, the microbiome, immunity, and IBS-related concerns, begin with The Gut Biome Reset.
-
For swollen legs, ankles, or feet and questions about circulation, lymph movement, elevation, compression, and warning signs, begin with Lighter Legs.
Who publishes the series?
